Pay attention

Das Mädchen aus dem Fahrstuhl, Berlinale Special, Deutsche Demokratische Republik 1990 , I wouldn’t really comment about the content of the movie because unfortunately, I didn’t paid enough attention about having subtitle when I was choosing the movie and it caused me to not understand anything about it.

But even without understanding the language it was not hard to guess. They didn’t record sound on set and then later recorded sounds didn’t fit and some parts were not even synced! For example in the elevator scene when we hear the voice of the child without moving his lips! However, I liked the narrative image and cinematography of this movie.

A weakness

The Operative, Section Competition: Some events in the movie take place in Iran. A woman goes to Iran as a spy and meets an Iranian guy. They build up a relationship. The guy brings her to an underground party (which is prohibited in Iran) and later tries to get close and closer…

There are some thinks I didn’t liked and I take them as a weakness! For example, actors which suppose to be from Tehran but not even the language they were speaking was proper Farsi! But anyway I found the film interesting.

Wrong order

Berlinale Short II, this programm has 5 movies. I don’t want to talk about number 1,2 or 3, but the 4th one! The image starts with a noise image and a voice-over which explains about life or better to say about the …

I really don’t know! I was annoyed! After 3 minutes, around 30 people left the cinema. I tried my best but I also couldn’t stand it more than 7 minutes. And just when I got up to get out, I realized more than half of cinema already left.

I don’t know if the film is a new vibe or just something really heavy that I couldn’t get, but I’m quite sure it was not worth to waste more time and suffer…

At the end of the day when I talked with some friends, apparently the best short film at of the Berlinale Shorts III programm was the last one. I’m feeling sorry for the filmmaker who lost more than half of his audience just because of the wrong order.

Either laugh or cry

Cleo tells the story about a girl who has lost her mother when she was born. Later when she is grown up she tries to build a time-machine with the help of her imaginary friends: Einstein and Co, in order to change the past …
The movie is part of the Generation section and shows historical events that happened in Berlin. A fiction movie that can either make you laugh or cry. Even though it’s full of cliches but you would still enjoying it! It’s a well made movie for the entire family. The music in the film reminded me of Tim Burton’s movie music, composed by Danny Elfman!
The other thing I liked is, they used 2D visual and animation effects which helped a lot to make Cleo a nice movie. I recommend this movie.
