Der Film Yours Sisterhood von Irene Lusztig (Sektion Forum) beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema Feminismus. Konkret geht es dabei um das feministische Magazin Ms. aus den 70er und 80er Jahren. I’m not sure if it’s because of my expectation or films in Berlinale are really bad! Every day with hope its a film worth watching and not wasting time…
I believe if a director has to explain about the film and say what heshe meant by hisher film that means heshe couldn’t transfer the idea from paper to screen.
The other thing which comes to my mind is,
Henia läuft am Strand zur Grenze Marokkos, um auf ihre Heimat Algerien herüberzuschauen. Zu sehen ist ein Soldat, der eine Waffe auf sie richtet. Berlinale Shorts III war eher eine Enttäuschung für die meisten von uns im Filmblog.
Ein Film, der für Aufruhr, Gelächter und Diskussionen sorgte, war der Film The Man Behind the Wall von Ines Moldavsky. Durch Tinder nimmt sie zu palästeninensischen Männern in der Westbank telefonisch oder persönlich Kontakt auf. In den Begegnungen geht es hauptsächlich um Sexualität und Tinder als Datingportal. Der Film Jibril ist ein Drama von Henrika Kull. Auf einer Hochzeit haben sich Maryam und Jibril kennengelernt. Jahre später treffen sich die beiden im Gefängnis zufällig wieder, als Maryam ein Paket abgeben soll. Der Empfänger ist Jibril, der dort eine mehrjährige Strafe verbüßt. Mit Feuereifer stürzt sich Maryam in die vorerst weitgehend platonische Romanze, die auf beiden Seiten einerseits Sehnsüchte stillt, andererseits aber auch Verlangen weckt.
Idris Elba was unfortunately not yet in Berlin for the first screening of his movie Yardie shown in the section Panorama of the 68 edition of the Berlinale.
Yardie is the first experience as director for Idris Elba after an immense career as actor. The film is based on a book with the same title by Victor Headley from 1992. The story takes place in Jamaica, 1973 when Dennis, a young boy witnesses his brother’s assassination due to a fight between two gangs. He dives into a criminal and drugs dealing world. The structure of the film An Elephant Sitting Still by Hu Bo and the way that will guide you to get to know the characters is close to REALITY TV. An Elephant Sitting Still, the longest film in the Berlinale 2018. For me it’s a reason to watch it, and see what this young film director Hu Bo made in his 4 hours film, especially when you know that film is the first long film of him and unfortunately the last. It’s not a shame to be poor but it’s a big shame when you don’t help other people.
„Al Gami’ya“, is an idea about the solidarity between many people, who have the same standard of living. The idea for example if ten people participate and each of them pays 100 egyptian pounds then the total amount that the participants will receive is 1000 pounds. This is an innovative way for Egyptians to cope with the high prices and pressures of daily life and economic burdens.
